It's Prithviraj-Shriya in 'Hero'

Shriya will be back in Mollywood for yet another innings, and this time the southern siren will be splitting screen time with Malayalam heartthrob Prithviraj. The film has been titled 'Hero' and Deepan will be calling the shots for this picture. While some sections of the media had reported that Trisha will be roped in for this film which might have proved her launch pad to Mollywood, this has not materialized because of lack of dates available from the actress. But Trisha recently stated in an interview that she is open to do films in Malayalam as well as Hindi (apart from Tamil of course) if she gets good roles to perform. Now this project with Prithvi and Shriya in the lead will take off sometime in November. This will be the second film the audience will see this pair on the silver screen, the first being 'Pokkiri Raja' which had Mega Star Mammootty in it.

 


Sethumadavan son to remake Chattakkari

Veteran director KS Sethumadhavan’s movie Chattakkari, which was released in 1974, has become a big hit at the Box Office. It has been remade in other languages and seen success in them also. Now, Sethumadhavan’s son Santhosh has planned to remake the super-hit film in Malayalam. The remake of Chattakkari is being produced by G Suresh Kumar under the banner of Revathi Kalamandhir. Suresh Kumar’s recent productions likeNeelathaamara and Rathinirvedam are the remakes of two super hit films.

 


Nayanthara converted to Hinduism

Diana Mariam Kurian (her original name) a born Christian has converted to Hinduism on Sunday (August 7) morning at Arya Samaj Temple in Chennai. Nayantara flew in from Kochi on Sunday morning and headed straight to the Arya Samaj Temple at Waltax Road in Chennai at around 11am.  She went through Shuddhi Karma, a procedure involving a Vedic purification and a Homan (a typical Hindu ritual done in front of fire) where Nayan chanted the hymns from Veda and Gayathri mantra under the guidance of the priest. After the purification ceremony, a Certificate of Conversion to Hinduism was issued to her and she rushed back to Kochi by evening flight. She will now be officially known by her Hindu name Nayanthara.

 


Dileep to play Biju Menon's wife!

The story line of this movie is that both Dileep and Biju Menon are friends and there arises a situation in their life when Dileep is forced to become the wife of Biju Menon. So this new movie of Dileep in a different story as a female is sure to attract the Mollywood completely. This movie is prepared under banner of "Colour Factory" by Producers Madhu Variyar and P Sukumar. The story is written by Uday Krishna and Sibi K Thomas.

 


Mammookka's son to debut

It is now the turn of Malayalam super star Mammootty’s son to hit the silver screen. Mammootty’s son Dulkar Salman also took his father’s profession like many of the star sons do. Tamil star director Linguswamy will direct this film which will be made simultaneously in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu languages. Linguswamy made his directorial debut with Tamil film Anandam, which has Mammootty in the lead. That film was later remade into Telugu as Sankranthi. Mammootty is currently on US tour and the film will be officially announced once he returns to India. Linguswamy will start this film after his current production with Simbu gets finished.

 


Excitation of Mohan Agashe to combine with Mammootty

Psychiatrist-turned actor Mohan Agashe, who was director of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, is now debuting in Malayalam through director Shaji Kailas’ movie The King And The Commissioner. The theatre artiste is all excited to work with Malayalam superstar Mammootty in the film. He has revealed that he had met Mammootty once during the shooting of Jabbar Patel’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkarand it was he who suggested his name for The King And The Commissioner. He considered it a good opportunity and accepted the offer.

  

Ulakam Chuttum Valiban during Onam

Jayaram's comedy entertainer Ulakam Chuttum Valiban, directed by Raj Babu (Chess, Colors and Kangaroo fame), is set to release for Onam on September 8. The film is written by Krishnan Poojapura and produced by Milan Jaleel under the banner of Galaxy Films. Ulakam Chuttum Valiban tells the story of a rural lorry driver Jayashankar (Jayaram) who seeks city life. Jayaram appears in three getups in this film. Mithra Kurian is the heroine. Other cast members include Suraj Venjaranmoodu, Vandana and Salim Kumar. Cinematography is by Anandakuttan, editing by V.T. Sreejith Menon and make up by Pradeep Rangan. Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri has set music to the lyrics penned by Vayalar Sharathchandra Varma and Rajeev Aalunkal.

  

Mammootty in triple roles

The last time he did triple roles was for the classic, 'Palerimanickyam', which fetched him a lot of awards. And now Mammootty is again back to doing triple roles, but this time it is for the pucca commercial venture 'Venicile Vyapari'. The movie directed by Shafi which has started its shoots at Aleppey will have the megastar as a coir merchant, and also as a police inspector. The third role is kept as a big suspense, which will be shot later. 'Vencicle Vyapari' will feature Kavya Madhavan and Poonam Bajwas as heroines to Mammootty. The movie is expected to go for a commercial release by the mid of November.

  

Inauguration of IDSFF by KB Ganesh at Kairali Theatre

Fourth International Documentary and Short Film Festival has started at Thiruvanathapuram on Sunday. KB Ganesh Kumar, the Minister for Film and Forest, inaugurated the Festival at Kairali Theatre. The actor-turned-politician also announced that a film festival complex would be constructed in Thiruvananthapuram without delay. Addressing the function, KB Ganesh Kumar said, “Kerala State Chalachithra Academy’s role is not just to conduct film festivals, but it should be a centre to impart knowledge on films to new generation, he said. To promote quality films in Malayalam, Chalachithra Academy and State Film Development Corporation should take coordinated efforts.”
