Eid-Onam releases!

The upcoming Eid-Onam festival season is about to see the release of four Malayalam films: Teja Bhai and Family, Shikari, Pranayam, Sevens, Ullakam Chuttum Valibhan and Doctor Love. Prithviraj's romantic comedy Teja Bhai and Family and Mammootty's bilingual Shikari are set to grace screens on August 26, while Mohanlal-Anupam Kher-Jayaprada starrer Pranayam will be released on August 31. Joshi's Sevens, starring Kunchacko Boban and Asif Ali and Jayaram's comedy Ullakam Chuttum Valibhan are slated for September 8 release and Kunchacko Boban's Doctor Love will be released on September 9.

 


Priyadarshan will remake 'Salt n' Pepper'

Filmmaker Priyadarshan, who created the trend of remaking some of the biggest Malayalam films in Bollywood, is out with yet another surprise. Priyan will be soon seen remaking the most popular film of the year, Salt n Pepper. As per the sources, the director has bought the rights of the Aashiq Abu’s film starring Lal, Shwetha Menon, Asif Ali and Mythili in the lead roles. According to the initial reports, Priyadarshan is waiting for the dates of a big name in Bollywood to take the Hindi remake of the film on the floors. The hitmaker had created box office records with Malayalam remakes in Hindi of films like Garam Masala, Golmal, Hungama etc.

 


Music director Johnson passes away

Noted film music director Johnson, 58, passed away at Chennai last night due to heart attack. Johnson, who was born in a musically affluent Christian family in Nellikkunnu at Thrissur district on March 26, 1953, has done music for over 300 Malayalam films. A favouritea of Bharathan and Padmarajan, Johnson has made great contributions in the area of film background scoring too. Johnson has left the music aficionados spellbound through his scores in the movies like Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal, Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettam,Vadakkunokkiyantram, Perumthachan, Amaram, Manichitrathazhu, Njan Gandharvan, Ponthan Mada, and Bhoothakkannadi. Johnson is a recipient of national film awards twice and state film awards five times. He won the national awards for background score in 1994 and 1995 through Ponthan Mada and Sukritam respectively. Johnson is the only musician to get this award twice. He was the first Malayalee composer to receive an award in music category and is also the only Malayalee music director who received two national awards in music category. He started his career as an assistant to G Devarajan in 1970s, and debuted as an independent composer in late seventies with Aaravam.

 


Jayaram-Kamal combo movie titled Swapna Sanchari

Malayalam actor Jayaram is joining hands with director Kamal after a break of 12 years. Their latest combo movie, which is produced by Emmanuel Thankachan under the banner of Trueline Cinema, has been titled Swapna Sanchari. The duo has already started shooting of the film in Thodupuzha on August 1. Swapna Sanchari is comedy-cum-sentimental film. Girish Kumar, who has written story for hit movie Veruthe Oru Bhariya, has penned the script for this film. Jayaram is playing a gulf-returned Malayalee, while actress Samvrutha Sunil appears as his heroine in the film, which will have music of popular composer M Jayachandran.

 


KPAC Lalitha receives Kambiserry award

Veteran actress KPAC Lalitha received Kambiserry Karunakaran award from KPAC chairman and MP KE Ismail at a function held in Thrissur Elite Hotel on Friday. The award was instituted by Abudhabi Yuvakalasahidhi. After receiving the award, Lalitha expressed her desire to revamp KPAC. She said she was ready to keep her busy work aside to act in dramas of KPAC for the purpose. KPAC Lalitha joined the KPAC in earlier days of her career and she was given the character name Lalitha. Later, the tag KPAC was also added to her screen name when she joined movies. “It was my dream to act in KPAC dramas and I prayed Guruvayurappan for his mercy to get a chance. But now, I could understand that the future of KPAC is not hopeful,” she said.

 


Saikumar returning as hero in Athoru Mazhakaalam

After a gap of a decade, character actor Saikumar is back to don a lead character in a new movie. Directed by debutante  Murukesh, this new movie titled as 'Athoru Mazhakaalam' will have the popular star as Shivashankaran Nair, a former cook of Iraq President Saddam Hussein. The movie will tell the unexpected happenings in the life of Shivasankaran Nair after the death of Saddam, Scripted by Ratheesh Sukumaran, the movie will be produced by Farmboys production. Tamil star Karthick is also expected to debut into Mollywood with this movie which will be on sets by the mid of September.

  

Mohanlal back with Siddhique

Mohanlal suddenly seems to be doing everything right. After creating a couple of hit multistarrers, the actor seems to be opting for the best of the directors for his forth coming movies. The best of the deal is the new project with hit maker Siddhique, which is poised to be on sets by the end of this year. This 2012 release will be produced by lal's man Antony Perumbavoor in the banner of his Aashirwaad films. The last time when Lal and Sidhique came together was for the big hit 'Vietnam colony'. Both the super star and the super director were planning to go for another movie together for quite some time, but due to the busy call sheets of both, the project was delayed to this year. Siddhique which is currently doing the final post production of his Hindi version of 'Body Gaurd' with Salman Khan will move on to the pre- production of the Mohanlal film after the release of the Hindi film.

  

'Pranayam' for a pan India release

Lalettan Mohanlal's forthcoming venture, 'Pranayam', for which the megaphone is wielded by Blessy will see a pan India release. The film will hit over 150 screens all over the country! The film stars Mohanlal, Anupam Kher, Jayaprada and Anoop Menon in the lead roles and will see a release on August 31, as an Onam treat for fans. 'Pranayam' will also mark Mohanlal's 300th innings in the film industry! While Max Lab Entertainment will handle the distribution in Kerala, Mohit Productions and Studio 99 films on behalf of the former, will handle the distribution in other parts of the country. This will be followed by the release of 'Dr Love' by Max Lab Entertainment.

  

Shobhana to play Krishna

After her much famous 'Maya Ravan', ace actor and danseuse Shobhana is in the final step to present herself as Lord Krishna in the new dance and music drama titled the same. Shobhana had been intensely practising with hundreds of her disciples to bring to stage this two and a half hour 'Krishna', which is now planned as an English drama. Oscar winner Rasul pookkuty will be the sound designer of this dram which will have its premier show on the August 22, at the Chennai Music Academy. Very famous celebrities from the cinema field will be giving voices to various characters on stage. While Surya will come up with his voice for Arjuna, Shabani Asmi will lend her voice for Gaandhari and Kankana Ranaut for Radha. After the successful completion and presentation of the English version, Shobhana has plans to dub the drama into Malayalam and Tamil. In the Malayalam version which is planned at kochy for the 24th of September, Shobhana will be using the voices of Mohanlal and Meera Jasmine for the lead characters of the drama.
